If you're unable to establish a connection when browsing to the static IP address of your instance over port 2087, check that your router, VPN, or internet service provider allows HTTP/HTTPS connections through port 2087. Otherwise, you will get an error stating that the site can't be reached. Important: you must include in your browser's address bar when navigating to the IP address and port of your instance. Be sure to add :2087 to the end of the address, which is the port on which you will establish a connection to your instance. Replace with the static IP address of your instance.

Transfer your license to another IP address later, you can submit a request to cPanel. Specify your static IP when you purchase a license from cPanel, and keep your static IP for as long as you plan to use your cPanel & WHM license with a Lightsail instance.
Because of this, you must attach a static IP to your cPanel & WHM instance if you plan on purchasing a license from cPanel. The license that you purchase is associated to the IP address of your instance. You must specify the public IP address of your cPanel & WHM instance when purchasing a license from cPanel. Or if your instance fails, you can restore your instance from a backup and reassign your static IP to your new instance.

Later, when you use your domain name with your instance, you don’t have to update your domain’s DNS records each time you stop and start the instance. Create a static IP address, and attach it to your instance, to keep the public IP address from changing. If you encounter any problems, be sure to check out the support methods shown in the previous tutorial.The default dynamic public IP address attached to your instance changes every time you stop and start the instance. Watch the following tutorial to find out how. That's it! cPanel and WHM are now installed! If all went well, you should now be able to log in to WHM. To finish, let's ensure that our license information is up to date.Ĩ) Lastly, type /usr/local/cpanel/cpkeyclt then press Enter. The installation is now totally complete.

Notice the message that the installation will take 10-70 minutes to complete, depending on your hardware. All existing configuration files will be overwritten, so you should hit CTRL+C immediately if you have any sites on your system.ĬPanel Layer 1 installation has now begun. Here you'll see the installer reinforce the warning that cPanel requires a fresh server without any websites on it. You'll begin to see some output right away. We're now ready to begin the installation.ħ) To execute the installer, type sh latest then press Enter. Note that the current directory has changed to /homeĦ) Next, retrieve the latest version of the cPanel installer by typing wget as always followed by Enter. You'll be prompted for the root password, then should see a line similar to the one shown above.ĥ) As root, the first command you'll type is cd /home followed by the Enter key. If you're logged in as an admin, you must first switch users to root by typing su - then pressing Enter. You should see a line like this appear after a successful root login. If this fails, you'll need to find out the admin login info from your host. If this is the case, you'll need to log in as an admin user, then switch users to root.ģ) Attempt to log in as root. Note that your server may be configured to disallow direct SSH connections using the root user. Without adequate information, you're more likely to run into trouble.ġ) Open PuTTY and enter the server's address above, or choose a saved session here.
